4-H is a youth development program organized through county extension offices, and its members are the exhibitors at the core of most New Jersey county fairs. Eight of the seventeen county fairs in this directory carry 4-H directly in the name: Atlantic, Bergen, Cape May, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Morris and Somerset. At a 4-H fair the judged classes, animal barns and project displays are run by young people rather than commercial exhibitors, which is why several of these fairs list animals and competitions but no ride midway.
