Privacy
New Jersey Fairs & Festivals is a free, independent directory. We keep this simple: standard web analytics, no personal data collected beyond what you send us in a form, no data sold.
What we collect
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the directory is used, in aggregate: which pages are viewed, roughly where visitors come from, and which links get clicked. This is standard web analytics.
We do not ask for, collect, or store personal information on this site. We have no accounts, and browsing pages requires no sign-in. If you send us details through a form (for example, to submit or claim a fair, or request a featured listing), that submission is delivered to us via Web3Forms so we can reply. We receive what you type in that form.
Star ratings on fair pages store a one-way hashed device identifier and a hashed network identifier (never your actual IP address or a readable device ID) to prevent the same visitor from rating a fair more than once in a 30-day period. The stored values are keyed one-way hashes, not the raw address or ID. Hashed identifiers can still count as personal data under some privacy laws, so we limit their use: they are used only to spot a repeat rating from the same visitor, never to identify you, to build a profile, or for advertising. They are kept with the rating record, and we have not set an automatic deletion date for them.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies to measure repeat visits and general usage. They do not identify you by name. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings.
If you submit a star rating, our rating service sets a cookie on its own domain that lasts up to one year. Its only purpose is to recognize a repeat rating from the same browser. Browsers that block third-party cookies will not keep it, and the service then relies on the hashed identifiers described above.
Third-party embeds and services
Fair detail pages embed a Google Maps location and, where relevant, a live weather forecast from Open-Meteo (a keyless, no-account weather service). Loading these embeds may involve a request to Google or Open-Meteo’s own servers.
Video thumbnails. The home page, the advertise page and each fair detail page show a still image for a short video. The image is requested from YouTube’s image servers (i.ytimg.com) as it comes into view, so YouTube receives your IP address and browser details, as any server does for an image request. The video player does not load until you tap play, and it then loads from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced embed address (youtube-nocookie.com). The event videos page works differently: it embeds a sample video player directly, so that player loads on the page as you scroll toward it, without a tap. YouTube’s own terms and privacy policy apply to anything you play.
Star ratings. Ratings run on a small service we operate on Cloudflare Workers. When a fair page opens, your browser asks that service for the fair’s rating total, so it receives the fair’s ID plus your IP address and browser details, as any web server does. If you submit a rating, it also receives the star count and any optional comment you type. Comments are not displayed on the site.
Rating bot check. Before a rating is accepted, the rating box runs a Cloudflare Turnstile check (challenges.cloudflare.com) to tell people from automated traffic. It loads only after you choose a star count, not when the page opens. Cloudflare receives your IP address and browser details with that request, and Cloudflare’s own privacy policy covers what the check collects.
Form bot check. The submit page and the advertise page protect their forms with hCaptcha (js.hcaptcha.com), set up through our form processor Web3Forms. The hCaptcha script loads once either page has finished loading, whether or not you use the form. hCaptcha receives your IP address and browser details, and hCaptcha’s own privacy policy covers what the challenge collects.
Event video orders. The event videos page links to Fiverr, where that service is ordered. Nothing loads from Fiverr until you follow the link, and Fiverr’s own terms and privacy policy apply from then on.
Some pages link out to other websites. When you follow one of those links you leave this site, and the other site’s own privacy policy applies.
What we do not do
We do not sell your data. We do not run advertising trackers that build a profile of you across the web. Analytics data is used only to improve this directory.
