Midway

The rides, games and concession strip at a fair, usually run by a contracted carnival operator.

The midway is the amusement section of a fair: mechanical rides, games of skill and food concessions laid out along a central walkway. It is almost always operated by an outside carnival company rather than the fair association itself, which is why admission and ride wristbands are typically priced separately. In this directory, a listing with the rides feature has a midway and a listing without it does not, and that single difference separates fairs like Middlesex and Cumberland from Somerset and Morris.

Also known as: carnival midway, the rides.
