Pulling

A fairground contest where a tractor, truck or draft animal team drags a weighted sled as far as it can.

Pulling is a competition in which the entrant drags a weighted sled or drag down a dirt track, and the winner is whoever moves the load farthest. Antique tractor, modified tractor, pickup truck and draft-animal classes are common, and each runs in weight brackets. Pulls are loud, dusty and scheduled, so they are usually run in the arena in front of the grandstand rather than continuously. Hearing protection is a reasonable idea for small children at a motorized pull.

Also known as: tractor pull, truck pull, horse pull, ox pull.
