Zeppole

Fried dough dusted with powdered sugar, the standard sweet at Italian-American feasts and many fair midways.

Zeppole are balls or ribbons of yeast dough fried to order and buried in powdered sugar, sold by the bag rather than the piece. They are a fixture of Italian-American feast days and turn up widely on New Jersey fair and festival midways, alongside the funnel cake that fills the same role in the American fair tradition. Order them last, because they are only good hot.

Also known as: zeppoli, fried dough.
